The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge (IBC), where people posted videos of themselves online dumping ice water over their heads and then challenging three others to do the same or donate to research, all in the name of fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), was started by two families in Yonkers, N.Y., and Boston, Mass.
